School Lacrosse: Broomhead steps down

Alison Broomhead has stepped down as Niskayuna High School’s varsity girls’ lacrosse coach after one season.

Broomhead filled in this past spring after Peter Melito left the lacrosse program to spend more time with his family. When taking the position, Broomhead said she did not intend to lead the team beyond the 2013 season.

Broomhead has been Niskayuna’s varsity girls’ field hockey coach since 2007. Five of her teams have reached Section II Class A championship games, and two of them prevailed, in 2009 and last year. The Silver Warriors won their first regional title last year before a state semifinal defeat, and finished with a 17-3 overall record.

Niskayuna’s lacrosse team went 10-6 with Broomhead at the helm. The Silver Warriors lost to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 11-10, in the Section II Class B semifinal round.
