The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys’ volleyball team went 5-3 in pool play and placed third at the state Class A regional tournament Saturday at Webster Schroeder High School.

Spartans’ senior Mike Coniglione was one of five Class A athletes selected as a sportsmanship award winner.

Burnt Hills made its sixth straight regional appearance and finished with a 26-1 record (pool play results do not count). Burnt Hills won the regional championship in 2007 and placed in 2008 and 2006.

football schedule

Saratoga Springs (Class AA), Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (Class A), Schalmont (Class B) and Hoosick Falls (Class C) will see state semifinal action this weekend at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. Here’s the schedule.

Friday
Class A: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (11-0) vs. Cornwall (8-2), 8 p.m.
Saturday
Class C: Hoosick Falls (11-0) vs. Bronxville (10-0), 12 noon.
Class B: Schalmont (9-2) vs. Nanuet (10-0), 4 p.m.
Class AA: Saratoga Springs (9-1) vs. New Rochelle (10-0), 8 p.m.

college commitments

LaSalle Institute catcher Will Remillard and schoolmate Dave Roseboom, a left-handed pitcher, signed Monday with Temple University and the University of South Carolina-Upstate, respectively. Both seniors made the Big 10 all-star team last season.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake pitching star Emily Ostrom has signed to play softball for the University at Albany.

Mohonasen senior Mike Dugan will continue his swimming career at Division I University of Buffalo. Dugan helped Mohonasen/Schalmont place second at the Section II championships last season.
