ValleyCats earn home-field advantage in NYPL playoffs (Updated)

The defending New York-Penn League-champion Tri-City ValleyCats clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a 3-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in the regular-season finale.

The Stedler Division-champion 'Cats finished with a 48-28 record, the same as the Pinckney Division-champion State College Spikes, the team Tri-City beat to win the title last year. The 'Cats won the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the season series.

The 'Cats will open the best-of-three semifinals at 6;35 p.m. Wednesday at the Connecticut Tigers, who earned the wild card with a 9-8 win over Lowell. Game 2 will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. If necessary, Game 3 will be 7 p.m. Friday at The Joe.

State College will meet McNamara Division-champion Hudson Valley in the other semifinal.
