RPI hockey recruit Liljegren helps Fairbanks win NAHL Robertson Cup
RPI hockey recruit Viktor Liljegren scored twice, including the game-winner, helping the Fairbanks Ice Dogs capture the North American Hockey League's Robertson Cup with a 6-2 victory over the Austin Bruins on Saturday.
The Ice Dogs swept the best-of-three finals, 2-0.
Liljegren, who will be coming to RPI either this fall or next year, scored a power-play goal late in the first period to tie the score, 1-1. He got his second goal of the game 8:16 into the second to make it 3-1.
Liljegren led the team with five shots on goal. He had an assist in the Ice Dogs' 5-4 overtime win Friday.
Another RPI recruit, Dean Melanson, had an assist for the Waterloo Black Hawks, who dropped a 3-2 double-overtime decision to the Indiana Ice in Game 2 of the U.S. Hockey League's Clark Cup final. The best-of-five series is tied 1-1.
