RPI recruit Hayhurst scores, but Toronto loses Royal Bank Cup opener

Jacob Hayhurst, a 2016-17 RPI hockey recruit, scored for the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots in their 2-1 loss to the Dauphin Kings in the opening game of the Royal Bank Cup Canadian Junior "A" championship tournament Saturday in Vernon, British Columbia.

Hayhurst scored early in the second period to give the Patriots the lead. The Kings scored twice in the third to get the win.

Forward Kevin Shier, a 2014-15 Union recruit, and defenseman Michael Prapavessis, an RPI recruit either coming in 2014-15 or the following season, didn't figure in the scoring for the Patriots. Shier did get a double minor for high-sticking late in the second period.

The Patriots face the Yorkton Terriers at 5 p.m. Sunday.
