Union hockey 2014-15 recruit Kevin Shier had a goal and an assist Wednesday, lifting the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots to a 5-1 victory over North York Rangers and clinch their Ontario Junior Hockey League Southwest Conference semifinal series, 4-1.

In nine playoff games, Shier is tied for the league lead in scoring with four goals and 12 assists. He was the team's second-leading scorer in the regular season with 21 goals and 33 assists.

The Patriots will face the winner of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres-Georgetown Raiders in the conference final. The Raiders took a 3-1 series lead with a 6-4 win Wednesday. Game 5 is Saturday.

If the Sabres come back to win the series, Shier will face Sabres defenseman and future Dutchmen teammate Nick DeSimone.
