NBCSN dumps first round of NHL draft at 10 p.m. for track and field

NBCSN, the cable home of the National Hockey League, was showing Canada cable sports channel TSN's coverage of the NHL draft. The broadcast started at 7 p.m., and was slated to go three hours.

The first 27 picks were shown on NBCSN. Then, at 10 p.m., viewers saw the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Huh?

There was no warning that NBCSN was going to make the switch. Couldn't the network have waited a few more minutes to show the final three picks? What was the rush to show the track and field?

You had to flip around before finding the remainder of the draft on NHL Network.

NBCSN has done a lot of great things covering the NHL. The league is healthy, and just had a great Stanley Cup playoffs. Ratings were pretty good.

NBCSN owes NHL fans across the United States an apology for this. There is no excuse for the network to get out of the broadcast early.

And, since the draft was being held in my hometown of Philadelphia, NBCSN deserves a hearty "Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"
