Cogswell, O'Keefe, Gage selected in Day 2 of MLB draft (updates)

A day after Shaker graduate Jeff Hoffman was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft, three more Capital Region players were picked Friday.

The picks came in the seventh round and within minutes of each other. Shenendehowa graduate and University of Virginia junior infielder Branden Cogswell was selected 222nd overall by the Oakland Athletics. With the 225th overall pick, the St. Louis Cardinals chose Colonie graduate and Saint Joseph catcher Brian O'Keefe.

Siena junior pitcher and Broadalbin-Perth graduate Matt Gage was a 10th-round pick (298th overall) of the San Francisco Giants.
