Union women's hockey announces six-player recruit class
The Union women's hockey team announced its six-player recruit class Thursday.
There are three forwards -- Hannah Erickson of Achiever Academy, Erica Kelly of King's-Edgehill School and Nicole Russell Honeybaked). There are two defensemen -- defenseman Caitlyn McLaren of the Ottawa Lady Senators and Brandy Streeter of the Buffalo Bisons and Nichols School. Also joining the Dutchwomen is goalie Alexx Ridding of the Barrie Junior Sharks).
Erickson had 15 goals and 24 assists in 25 games for Achiever Erickson also played three seasons at the North American Hockey Academy in Stowe, Vt., helping the Winter Hawks capture three Junior Women's Hockey League championships.
Kelly recorded back-to-back 100-point seasons for King's-Edgehill School in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Last season as team captain, she had 63 goals and 55 assists.
Russell spent five years with Honeybaked, winning back-to-back state championships in 2013 and 2014.
McLaren had a goal and 11 assists in 37 games, topping all Ottawa defensemen in scoring.
Streeter spent the past four years with Buffalo, most recently with the Bisons' Under-19 squad.
Russell had and 8-8-2-1 record with a 1.94 goals-against average, a .936 save percentage and two shutouts in 19 starts for the Sharks.
"We are excited about this class because it is going to add depth to all ends of the ice," Union coach Claudia Asano Barcomb said. "We look forward to their leadership, work ethic, energy and skill on the ice."
