Colonie's O'Keefe gets first pro homer in Spikes' win

Colonie High School graduate and State College Spikes catcher Brian O'Keefe hit his first professional home run Sunday in the Spikes' 5-2 New York-Penn League victory over the Jamestown Jammers.

O'Keefe, who was the St. Louis Cardinals' seventh-round selection in last month's Major League Baseball first-year player draft out of Saint Joseph's University, hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning that gave the Spikes a 3-2 lead.

"I was just looking for something to drive," O'Keefe told reporters after the game. "I got a 2-0 fastball, and I didn't miss it."

Thanks to WJAC-TV sportscaster Ashley Chase for sending me a link to his interview.
