Significant lineup changes for Union, RPI hockey teams

With a total of seven players suspended as a result of their roles in last Saturday's Mayor's Cup game, Union and RPI have had to make significant lineup changes for their games tonight in the North Country.

Fourth-ranked and ECAC Hockey-leading Union, which faces St. Lawrence at 7, is without defenseman Mat Bodie, center Eli Lichtenwald and left winger Daniel Ciampini.

The Dutchmen's defensive pairings have been altered. Shayne Gostisbehere and Jeff Taylor, who normally are paired together, will be split up for the game. Gostisbehere will play with Noah Henry, while Taylor is teamed with Charlie Vasaturo, who is normally paired with Bodie.

The only line intact is the 3M Line of center Mike Vecchione, left winger Matt Hatch and right winger Michael Pontarelli.

Here is the Union lineup, starting with the forwards (LW-C-RW):
Matt Hatch/Mike Vecchione/Michael Pontarelli
Daniel Carr/Max Novak/Kevin Sullivan
Matt Wilkins/David Roy/Nick Cruice
Cole Ikkala/Mark Bennett/Sam Coatta

The defensive pairings are:
Shayne Gostisbehere/Noah Henry
Jeff Taylor/Charlie Vasaturo
Matt Krug/Sebastien Gingras

Colin Stevens starts in goal.

Ciampini and Lichtenwald are eligible to return Saturday against Clarkson. Bodie has a two-game suspension.

Assistant coach Jeff Dumais is the acting head coach. Head coach Rick Bennett is serving a four-game suspension.

RPI is at 15th-ranked Clarkson at 7 p.m. The Engineers lost four players and coach Seth Appert to one-game suspensions. The players out are forwards Ryan Haggerty, the team's leading scorer, and Mike Zalewski and defensemen Luke Curadi and Bo Dolan.

Because the ECACH limits teams to 23 players in the traveling party, RPI will dress just 17 skaters, one less than normal.

Assistant coaches Brian Vines and Nolan Graham are running the team tonight.

Here is the RPI lineup, starting with the forwards (LW-C-RW):
Riley Bourbonnais/Brock Higgs
Jacob Laliberte/Milos Bubela/Matt Neal
Mark McGowan/Mark Miller/Zach Schroeder
Matt Tinordi/Johnny Rogic/Jimmy DeVito

The defensive pairings are:
Guy Leboeuf/Curtis Leonard
Chris Bradley/Phil Hampton
Craig Bokenfohr/Parker Reno

Scott Diebold starts in goal.
