Vecchione returns to Union practice (with video)

Union freshman center Mike Vecchione, who has been battling a full-body injury, returned to practice this week.

If all goes well, Vecchione is hoping to be back in the lineup Friday, when the third-ranked Dutchmen host Harvard in their first game at Messa Rink since Dec. 11. Game time is 7 p.m.

Vecchione, who has five goals and eight assists in 18 games, is Union's top faceoff man. He has won 55 percent of his draws.

"I've fully practiced and doing pretty good," Vecchione said. "I should be ready for the weekend."

Union coach Rick Bennett won't make a decision on Vecchione until game time.

"He's come a long nicely, but you never know until you get into that game mode," Bennett said. "For a guy who’s coming off a full-body injury, he’s doing pretty well."
