Report: NFL looks to sell Thursday night package

The Associated Press reported Sunday night that the NFL is looking to sell a Thursday night package to a network.

League spokesman Brian McCarthy told the AP that NFL Network would retain some games, "but we are in discussions to air a part of the package with existing and potentially new broadcast and cable partners."

This could open the door for games to be shown on FOX Sports 1, NBCSN or TNT/TBS.

NFL Network began televising Thursday night games in 2006, showing eight games per season. The number of games increased to 13 in 2012.
