End 1st period: Ciampini SHG gives Union a 1-0 lead over Clarkson

Daniel Ciampini extended his goal-scoring streak to six games with a short-handed tally, giving ECAC Hockey-leading and third-ranked Union a 1-0 lead over Clarkson after one period of play on Friday at Messa Rink.

With the Dutchmen down a man thanks to a penalty for too many men, Ciampini led a two-on-one rush down the right wing. He passed the puck to Matt Bodie on his left. Bodie tried to give the puck back to Ciampini, but it was blocked by a diving defenseman Kevin Tansey.

But Tansey slid into goalie Steve Perry and then into the net. Ciampini picked up the loose puck and fired it home at 13:25.

Union has a 9-4 shot advantage.
