Colonie opens LLWS regional play with win

Jimmy Davis had two doubles among his three hits and had RBI and two runs scored as Colonie held on for a 6-3 victory over Northwest Washington in the opening game for both teams at the Little League World Series Mid-Atlantic Regional at Breen Field.

Davis had an RBI double during Colonie’s two-run first inning. He later scored on Ian Parker’s groundout.

Colonie added three runs in the second. Zane Nelsen scored on an error, Collin McDonough had an RBI single and later came home on an error.

Northwest Washington scored all of its runs in the third.

Colonie scored its last run on a wild pitch in the sixth.

Colonie starting pitcher Jakob Lemperle struck out seven in four innings. He also hit two doubles.

Colonie returns to action at 5 p.m. Sunday against Toms River (N.J.).
