Rick Bennett, who guided Union to its second NCAA hockey Frozen Four appearance in three years, was named the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year on Wednesday.

Bennett is the second Union coach to win the award Nate Leaman won it in 2011.

The Dutchmen are 30-6-4 this season. They won the ECAC Hockey regular-season title for the second time in three years under Bennett, and they won their third straight ECACH tournament championship, becoming just the third team to pull off that feat.

Top-ranked Union faces Boston College in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
