Ex-Union center Welsh survives latest Hurricanes' cuts

With just eight days until the start of the NHL regular season, Jeremy Welsh is still in the Carolina Hurricanes' training camp.

The Hurricanes trimmed their roster by six players on Monday. Sent down to the AHL's Charlotte Checkers were forwards Nicolas Blanchard, Zach Boychuk, Aaron Palushaj and Jared Staal, defenseman Michal Jordan and goalie Justin Peters.

While the NHL starts play next Tuesday, the Hurricanes will open their season Oct. 4 against Detroit.
