The United States men's soccer team's 2-0 victory over Mexico on Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, that clinched the squad a berth in the 2014 World Cup tied a record for ESPN, the cable network announced Wednesday.

The game scored a 1.4 rating, matching the record for a World Cup qualifier on ESPN. It tied the March 16, 2013, game between the U.S. and Mexico in Mexico City.

The telecast was seen by an average audience of 2.243 million viewers and 1.641 million television households.
