Strong Sunday Week 1 NFL ratings for NBC, FOX, CBS

Ratings for the first Sunday of the NFL season were very good.

NBC's "Sunday Night Football" game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys scored an overnight 16.6 rating and 27 share. It's the fourth straight 16=plus rating for the opening Sunday on NBC. It was the fifth-best NBC "SNF" overnight all-time and third-best for NBC "SNF" opener since 2006.

FOX's late-afternoon national window, anchored by the Green Bay Packers-San Francisco 49ers, got an overnight 17.8/34, making it FOX's best Week 1 national game overnight ever.

CBS, which had regional coverage at 1 p.m., earned an overnight household rating/share of 11.2/23, up 8 percent from last year’s 10.4/22. The 11.2/23 is the highest-rated single-header game debut for CBS in the metered markets in 14 years (12.0/28 in 1999).
