Route 7 Rivalry: Cruice gives Union 2-1 lead over RPI after two

Nick Cruice scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:13 left in the second period to give Union a 2-1 lead over RPI after 40 minutes of play in their ECAC Hockey game Friday at Messa Rink.

Dutchmen defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere forced a turnover in the RPI left circle. The puck got to Cruice in the slot, and he buried a wrist shot past goalie Scott Diebold.

Earlier in the period, Diebold stopped four straight shots, three by Gostisbehere.

RPI took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a Brock Higgs shorthanded goal. Daniel Ciampini tied it on the power play later in the period.

Union has a 24-10 shot advantage.
