Union-Dartmouth ECAC Hockey quarterfinals Game 2 pregame report

By Ken Schott
Saturday, March 16, 2013

Good evening from Messa Rink, where Union seeks to end Dartmouth’s season as the fourth-seeded Dutchmen (18-12-5) host the fifth-seeded Big Green (15-13-5) in Game 2 of the ECAC Hockey tournament quarterfinals.

This will be a short pregame report. I’ve been on the go since 5 a.m. I’ve been working the Schenectady Youth Hockey Association’s Shatterpoint Tournament. My son plays for the SYHA Pee Wee B. I do the public address announcing, run the clock and the music. I had three games to work in the morning, and two more in the afternoon. I have three games to work tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll stay awake.

The 19th-ranked Dutchmen took a 1-0 lead in the series Friday with a 4-1 win. Daniel Carr scored twice, and goalie Troy Grosenick made 31 saves.

A win by the Dutchmen, the defending ECACH tournament champions, puts them in the semifinals next Friday in Atlantic City, N.J.

There is just one lineup change for Union. Mark Bennett replaces David Roy as the fourth-line center. Roy is a healthy scratch.

Here is the Union lineup, starting with the forwards (LW-C-RW):
Daniel Ciampini/Kyle Bodie/Wayne Simpson
Daniel Carr/Josh Jooris/Matt Wilkins
Matt Hatch/Max Novak/Kevin Sullivan
Cole Ikkala/Mark Bennett/Sam Coatta

The defensive pairings are:
Mat Bodie/Sebastien Gingras
Greg Coburn/Shayne Gostisbehere
Ryan Forgaard/Shawn Stuart

Grosenick starts in goal.

Dartmouth coach Bob Gaudet is making one lineup change, He is going with six defensemen, adding Andy Simpson. Simpson was a healthy scratch last night as the Big Green dressed five defensemen and 13 forwards.

Here is the Dartmouth lineup, starting with the forwards:

Matt Lindblad/Tyler Sikura/Dustin Walsh
Connor Dempsey/Nick Bligh/Eric Neiley
Jesse Beamish/Charlie Mosey/Tim O’Brien
Brad Schierhorn/Alex Goodship/Eric Robinson

The defensive pairings are:
Mike Keenan/Ryan Bullock
Geoff Ferguson/Taylor Boldt
Rick Pinkston/Andy Simpson

Charles Grant, who made 37 saves last night, starts in goal.

The referees are Chris Ciamaga and Joe Carusone. Joe Testa and Justin Prusak are the linesmen.
