Sacred Heart hires Union hockey volunteer assistant coach Beal

Union College hockey volunteer assistant coach Joel Beal has been named an assistant coach at Sacred Heart.

Beal, who played for the Dutchmen from 2001-05 and had 101 career points, served as volunteer assistant under head coach Rick Bennett the past two seasons.

Sacred Heart is coached by CJ Marottolo. Scott McDougall is the other Pioneers' assistant coach.

"First and foremost, I'm extremely excited about the opportunity," Beal said Wednesday. "I appreciate CJ, and Scottie and the entire staff for giving me the opportunity to do what I love, which is coach.

"I can't thank everybody enough at Union. Coach Bennett was a mentor. I learned a lot not only from him, but from [assistant coaches] Joe [Dumais] and Jason [Tapp], as well."
