2013 Stanley Cup playoffs: Cup finals pick
More mediocrity from my picks in the NHL Stanley Cup playoff predictions from the conference finals. I should have had more faith in the Bruins. Who knew that they would hold the Penguins’ offensive machine to two goals in their four-game sweep? That was very impressive.
At least I got my Western Conference pick correct. The Blackhawks looked sharp in knocking off the defending Cup-champion Los Angeles Kings. My record through three rounds is a paltry 8-6.
Now, we have our first Original Six Cup final since 1979, when the Montreal Canadiens knocked off the New York Rangers. Hockey fans around North America are excited. I know I am. Also, it’s an unusual final in that the teams didn’t face each other during the regular season, thanks to the lockout that shortened the schedule to 48 games.
Now, it’s time to for me to FINALLY pick the Cup winner. In the past five years, I have been unsuccessful. But I am confident in getting it right this time.
Both teams are playing well. The Bruins’ defense has been stifling, and they have been getting balance from the offense. The Blackhawks have been good in both categories, too.
This might be the toughest pick I have to make. I’ve been going back and forth on it. Well, here goes. My pick is (drum roll please).......
Bruins in 6.
