Union hockey's Forgaard, Stuart headed to French Elite League

Two more Union hockey players are heading to Europe to begin their pro careers.

Defensemen Ryan Forgaard and Shawn Stuart were signed by the Drakkars Hockey Club in the French Elite League on Monday.

Forgaard played in 110 career games for the Dutchmen, collecting nine assists. Last season, he had two assists in 31 games.

Stuart had four goals and 22 assists in 147 career games. He played in 30 games last season and had five assists. Stuart missed 10 games because of two separate injuries, the most time he had missed in his Union career.

Forgaard and Stuart join another Dutchmen defenseman, Greg Coburn, in Europe. Coburn signed with Tampereen Ilves of the Finnish Elite League last Monday.
