Burnt Hills Little League closes in on state title

Jack Wyatt hit a three-run homer, and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake scored twice in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and beat Pearl River, 5-4, Friday to advance to the New York State Little League championship game in Lockport.

Burnt Hills trailed, 3-0, heading into the bottom of the fourth. One-out singles by Evan Bowers and Derek Haughey put runners at first and second. Wyatt came up and belted the first pitch he saw over the left-field wall to tie the score, 3-3.

In the fifth, Brendan Bachus scored the go-ahead run on an error. Bowers added an RBI single. That proved to be the game-winner as Pearl River scored a run in the top of the sixth.

Burnt Hills will play the winner of today’s Pearl River-South Shore game at noon Sunday. The state champion advances to the regional tournament in Bristol, Conn.
