Ryan Haggerty scored 16 seconds into the second period Saturday, helping RPI tie Union, 1-1, after 40 minutes of play in the inaugural Mayor's Cup game at the Times Union Center.
Jacob Laliberte tipped a CJ Lee shot that goalie Troy Grosenick stopped. But Haggerty was alone in front, and he put the rebound home.
RPI has dominated the game. It has a 25-13 shot edge.
Daniel Ciampini scored a power-play goal in the first period for Union.
