Grosenick sharp as Union leads RPI, 1-0, after one
Goalie Troy Grosenick stopped 16 shots, and Daniel Ciampini scored a power-play goal as Union has a 1-0 lead over RPI in the inaugural Mayor's Cup game Saturday at the Times Union Center.
Grosenick had to be sharp because the Engineers were forcing numerous Dutchmen turnovers. He made a glove save on a Bo Dolan shot from the high slot with 12:07 left in the period, and then robbed Ryan Haggerty on a low slow shot after Mat Bodie turned the puck over with 8:41 to go.
Union made the most of its first power-play chance. RPI goalie Jason Kasdorf made a stop on a Greg Coburn left-wing shot, but couldn't control the rebound. Ciampini was on the doorstep, and he put it over Kasdorf's right shoulder at 3:34.
