Union-Colgate pregame report

Good evening from Messa Rink, where Union seeks to find some answers to its problems of holding onto leads in the third period as it faces Colgate.

The 17th-ranked Dutchmen are coming off a second straight devastating loss. They wasted a 2-1 lead in the third to Cornell last night and lost, 3-2. The Big Red scored twice in the third period.

Last Saturday, Union blew a 2-0 third-period lead to Quinnipiac and lost, 3-2. It has the Dutchmen wondering what is going on.

“A big part is turnovers,” Union coach Rick Bennett said. “Not being able to catch a pass in the neutral zone. We must practice passing in the neutral zone more than any other team in the whole country. I’m trying to figure [it] out because we show film, we practice it, and I don’t if it comes to game time, we have guys that are a little frightened to catch passes in the neutral zone. That’s a little disheartening for me.”

Bennett has shifted some forwards around for the game. Daniel Carr has been moved from the second line right wing to the left wing on the first line with center Kyle Bodie and right wing Wayne Simpson. Daniel Ciampini, who was on the left winger on the top line, has been dropped to the fourth line. He will play right wing.

Nick Cruice replaces Sam Coatta on the right wing on the line with center David Roy and left winger Cole Ikkala.

On defense, Ryan Forgaard takes the place of Charlie Vasaturo.

Here is the Union lineup, starting with the forwards (LW-C-RW):
Daniel Carr/Kyle Bodie/Wayne Simpson
Matt Hatch/Josh Jooris/Kevin Sullivan
Cole Ikkala/David Roy/Nick Cruice
Matt Wilkins/Max Novak/Daniel Ciampini

The defensive pairings are:
Ryan Forgaard/Tim Boyle
Greg Coburn/Shayne Gostisbehere
Mat Bodie/Sebastien Gingras

Troy Grosenick starts in goal.

Colgate, ranked 20th, is coming off a 2-1 loss to RPI last night. Freshman Tylor Spink leads the Raiders in scoring with seven goals and 13 assists.

Here is the Raiders’ lineup, starting with the forwards:
Joe Wilson/Kurtis Bartliff/Robbie Bourdon
Darcy Murphy/John Lidgett/Mike Borkowski
Tyson Spink/Tylor Spink/Kyle Baun
Billy Rivellini/Mike McCann/Christian Long

The defensive pairings are:
Nathan Sinz/Ryna Johnston
Jeremy Price/Mike Leidl
Kevin Lough/Thomas Larkin

Spencer Finney starts in goal.

Bryan Hicks and Scott Whittemore are the referees. The linesmen are Jim Briggs and Richard Patry.
