Union maintains 2-1 lead over Cornell after two

Union still has a 2-1 lead over Cornell after two periods of play in their ECAC Hockey game at Messa Rink on Friday.

Dutchmen goalie Troy Grosenick made 14 saves in the second. He also got some help from iron as two Cornell shots hit the post.

Big Red goalie Andy Iles made 11 saves, including a nifty glove save on a Daniel Carr shot.

Goals by Matt Hatch and Kyle Bodie gave given Union a 2-1 lead.

The 17th-ranked Dutchmen didn't get off to a good start. John Esposito scored 1:07 into the game for the 16th-ranked Big Red.

The Dutchmen overcame that. Hatch dug a puck out of scrum in the slot and fired a shot over Iles' glove at 9:18.

Bodie gave the Dutchmen the lead on the power play with 4:21 left. After Iles stopped a Wayne Simpson backhander from the slot, the puck caromed high in the air. Bodie calmly knocked it down with his glove and fired it into the net.

The Big Red have 58 seconds of power-play time to start the third after the Dutchmen were called for too many men.
