Union's Stuart out indefinitely (with video)
Union senior defenseman Shawn Stuart will miss at least this weekend's ECAC Hockey games against Cornell and Colgate, and maybe more, Dutchmen coach Rick Bennett said prior to practice Wednesday at Messa Rink.
Stuart suffered an upper-body injury when he was checked midway through the first period of the Dutchmen's 3-2 loss to Quinnipiac.
"He's going to be on the shelf for a while," Bennett said. "It's just one of those things in that he took a pretty good hit there at Quinnipiac. As far as the timetable, it's all within the individual. Basically,[with] his pain threshold, it could be a week, it could be three weeks. We'll just have to wait and see."
It will end Stuart's consecutive games played streak at 100. Stuart has played in 138 career games. He has missed just three games in his career the last being Oct. 9, 2010 against Sacred Heart, the Dutchmen's second game of his sophomore season. He was a healthy scratch for that game.
"He's a senior," Bennett said. "Shawn's given a lot to this program. He's been a steady-rock defenseman back there for us. It's unfortunate, but in the same sense, it gives someone else a chance to step up."
