Union hockey: Gostisbehere's return to lineup remains questionable (with video)
The chances of Union sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere remain up in the air.
Union coach Rick Bennett said before practice Wednesday at Messa Rink that he is still thinking about the situation. Gostisbehere returned to campus Monday, two days after helping Team USA win the World Junior Hockey Championships in Ufa, Russia. Gostisbehere hasn't practiced with the Dutchmen yet. On Monday, Bennett said Gostisbehere wouldn't start practicing until Thursday.
"I can't say it's a 50-50 right now [about playing], based on how he feels," Bennett said Wednesday. "I wish I could tell you he could play."
Asked if it could be a game-time decision, Bennett said, "We'll know after tomorrow's skate, hopefully, on how he feels. I think it's going to take a lot for Shayne Gostisbehere not to play. He's already missed some games, and that kills him. I think he'll be ready to go, but in the same token, you just don't know."
Philadelphia Flyers fans will be hoping Gostisbehere plays. They want to see the future Flyer in action at Princeton. Gostisbehere was a third-round selection by the Flyers in last June's draft.
And NBC Sports Network would probably love to promote Gostisbehere's appearance because of winning the gold medal.
