Romero named ValleyCats manager

Ed Romero will manage the New York-Penn League's Tri-City ValleyCats, the team and its major league affiliate, the Houston Astros, jointly announced Friday.

Romero is the sixth manager in 'Cats' history. He replaces Stubby Clapp, who guided the 'Cats to the Stedler Division title and a berth in the NY-P League Championship Series.

Romero, who is in his 21st year in pro baseball, spent the last two seasons managing the Gulf Coast League Astros. He was Houston's third-base coach in 2008, and its bench coach in 2009.

Joining Romero are pitching coach Doug White and hitting coach Russ Steinhorn.
