Union hockey freshmen assigned jersey numbers
The 2013-14 Union men's hockey roster is on the school's athletic website. There are no number changes for the returning players.
As for the nine new players, here are the numbers they will wear.
-- Goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos will wear No. 1. It was last work by goalie Troy Grosenick, who gave up his final year of eligibility to sign with the San Jose Sharks.
-- Defenseman and Clifton Park native Jeff Taylor will wear No. 2. The number was last work by defenseman Nolan Julseth-White in 2011-12.
-- Forward Alex Gonye will wear No. 3, whch was worn by defenseman Ryan Forgaard the last four seasons.
-- Defenseman Matt Krug will wear No. 5. It's the first time that number has been used since defenseman Mike Schreiber in the 2009-10 season.
-- Forward Michael Pontarelli will wear No. 7. It's ironic because Pontarelli was a late addition to the Dutchmen lineup after Josh Jooris, who had worn No. 7 the last three seasons, gave up his senior year when he signed with the Calgary Flames.
-- Forward Eli Lichtenwald will wear No. 12, which was worn by center Kyle Bodie the last four years.
-- Defenseman Griffyn Martin will wear No. 20, which was worn by defenseman Greg Coburn the last four years.
-- Forward Mike Vecchione will wear No. 21, which was worn by right winger Wayne Simpson the last four years.
-- Defenseman Noah Henry will wear No. 28, which was worn by defenseman Shawn Stuart the last four years.
