Union recruit Sakellaropoulos named USHL co-goalie of the week
Chicago Steel netminder and Union College hockey recruit Alex Sakellaropoulos was named the U.S. Hockey League's co-goalie of the week on Monday.
Sakellaropoulos, who committed to the Dutchmen last Thursday, led the Steel to two wins against the Youngstown Phantoms over the weekend to close out the season. He made 46 saves and also had an assist in the Steel's 3-2 victory Friday. Sakellaropoulos followed that up the next night with a 22-save effort in a 3-0 triumph.
Sakellaropoulos set the Steel's single-season record for wins with 22, and his 30 career wins are second all-time in Steel history. He was 22-20-3 with a 3.03 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage and three shutouts.
Sakellaropoulos shared the award with Sioux City's Kyle Hayton.
