ESPN3 to televise 7 Kontinental Hockey League

In an odd programming move, ESPN announced Friday that it will deliver a minimum of seven games from 2012-13 season of the Kontinental Hockey League exclusively on ESPN3, ESPN internet channel, in the U.S.

It will also air one game on ESPN2 The Lev vs. Dynamo Moscow will be on same-day tape at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Steve Levy and Barry Melrose will call the game, presumably from the comforts of the ESPN studio in Bristol, Conn. The game will be live on ESPN3 at 1 p.m.

It seems strange to me that ESPN, which doesn't do much with the NHL, would appease fans during the lockout by showing KHL games. I would have thought the NBC Sports Network, the cable home of the NHL, will try to get the games.

Here is the KHL on ESPN3 schedule:
Date Time Match-Up
Oct. 9 1 p.m. Lev vs. Dynamo Moscow (airing same-day tape on ESPN2 at 8 p.m.)
Oct. 14 9 a.m. Dynamo Moscow vs. Amur
Oct. 16 11:30 a.m. Dynamo Moscow vs. Sibir HD
Oct. 18 11:45 a.m. SKA vs. Sibir HD
Oct. 22 12:30 p.m. Dinamo Riga vs. Metallurg Mg
Oct. 29 11:30 a.m. Dynamo Moscow vs. Dinamo Riga HD
