Union hockey media day notes: Mat Bodie named captain; new venue for coach's radio show
Notes from Monday's Union hockey media day:
— Junior defenseman Mat Bodie was named the team captain. Bodie had eight goals and 21 assists last season, and has 14 goals and 47 assists for his career. He was named to the ECAC Hockey First Team, and was a Second Team All-America.
"To follow in the footsteps if 'Juice' [Nolan Julseth-White] and Brock Matheson, it's a huge honor to be named captain of this program," Bodie said.
Senior center Kyle Bodie, Mat's brother, and senior defenseman Greg Coburn are the alternate captains.
— The "Union College Hockey Coaches Show" bi-weekly radio show has a new home this season. The 30-minute show will air live from The Van Dyck in Schenectady every other Tuesday starting Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. Bombers Burrito Bar had been the home the last two seasons.
"We're excited about it," Van Dyck owner Billy McDonald said. "With the tremendous support that we had at the rally for the Frozen Four, it was probably our biggest crowd we had ever at The Van Dyck. We like being behind Union athletics, particularly Union College hockey."
The show is heard on WPTR-AM (1240) and WABY-AM (1160). WPTR is the former WVKZ.
