A big Sunday for NBC Sports
It was a great Sunday for NBC Sports, even it wasn't for the U.S. golf team and the New York Giants.
Sunday's Ryder Cup coverage, which saw Europe rally from a 10-6 deficit to stun the U.S., 14 1/2-13 1/2, had a 4.1 rating and a 9 share. It's the best overnight rating for the final round of the event in 13 years, when the U.S. team's comeback to defeat the Europeans and win the Ryder Cup in Brookline, Mass., in 1999 (6.3/15).
Sunday's rating was 71 percent higher than the last Ryder Cup (2.4/7 in 2010 from Newport, Wales), and 21 percent better than the last Ryder Cup contested in the U.S. (3.4/7 from Louisville, Ky., in 2008).
The Sunday night football game, in which my Philadelphia Eagles edged the New York Giants, 19-17, earned a 15.6 overnight rating and a 25 share. That is 23 percent better than last year’s Week 4 'SNF' game (Jets-Ravens 12.7/20), and the best overnight rating for a Week 4 primetime game in 16 years (Dolphins-Colts 19.1/29, 9/23/96 on ABC).
