Niskayuna's Stevens gets start in goal for Union against Penn State
Niskayuna's Colin Stevens will get the start in goal tonight for eighth-ranked Union as the Dutchmen face Penn State in Game 1 of a two-game series at 7 at Messa Rink.
Troy Grosenick, who suffered a right-leg injury Nov. 9 against Harvard, felt fine in practice earlier this week. But Union coach Rick Bennett probably wants to give Grosenick another day of rest. Perhaps Grosenick starts Sunday's game against the Nittany Lions.
In other linuep moves, freshman left winger Theo DiPauli makes his Messa Rink debut playing on the third line. The only game DiPauli played this season was Oct. 26 at American International. Center David Roy, right winger Sam Coatta and defenseman Charlie Vasaturo are back in the lineup after missing the Nov. 10 game at Dartmouth. Out of the lineup are left winger Matt Wilkins, center Mark Bennett, right winger Kevin Sullivan and defenseman Sebastien Gingras. For Gingras and Wilkins, both freshman, it will be the first games they have missed this season.
Here is the Union lineup, starting with the forwards (LW/C/RW):
Daniel Carr/Josh Jooris/Nick Cruice
Daniel Ciampini/Kyle Bodie/Wayne Simpson
Theo DiPauli/Max Novak/Matt Hatch
Cole Ikkala/David Roy/Sam Coatta
The defensive pairings are:
Shayne Gostisbehere/Ryan Forgaard
Greg Coburn/Charlie Vasaturo
Shawn Stuart/Tim Boyle
The referees are Peter Feola and Kyle Allen. Tory Carissima and Justin Prusak are the linesmen.
I'll have more on this game later in my pregame report.
