Wells 'Yankeeography' premieres Thursday on YES
Pitcher Davis Wells will be featured in the newest "Yankeeography" at 11 p.m. Thursday in the YES Network.
Among those interviewed for the show are Paul O’Neill, David Cone, Al Leiter, Derek Jeter, Brian Cashman, Ken Singleton, John Flaherty, Kirk Gibson, Lou Piniella, San Diego childhood friends Joe Rodriguez, Tom Kamfonik, Tom Ruckle, David Camera and Randy Deitz, and his wife Nina Wells.
Some "Did You Know" factoids, provided by the YES PR department:
-- Wells, with Toronto when David Cone pitched his perfect game at Yankee Stadium on July 17, 1999, was tempted when the last out was recorded to fly to NYC to party with his good buddy Cone: “It was on (TV) and I was watching. I kid you not, I almost got dressed and went to the airport. ‘I’m going to go party with my buddy.’ I came that close to leaving.”
-- When Wells was growing up in San Diego, no one ever bothered him or hassled him because his mom was dating a member of the Hell’s Angels.
-- Wells and Yankees owner George Steinbrenner worked up a contract one morning before the 2002 season over breakfast at Pete & Shorty’s, a tavern in Tampa, paving the way for Wells’ return to the Yankees.
-- Wells started a tradition while with the Tigers of cranking Metallica on the clubhouse sound system on the days of his scheduled starts; he carried this tradition with him as he went to other teams.
