Jeanneret will do all 82 Sabres' games this season

Buffalo Sabres fans will hear legendary play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret for all 82 games this season.

Jeanneret announced his intentions Wednesday in a story on the Sabres' website. The games are televised by MSG, MSG Plus and Sabres HD.

"It took a few days," said Jeanneret, who will be in his 41st year with the Sabres. "I had to think about it a little bit. But once I diced up the schedule and parsed it a little bit, I decided that it was pretty darn good. I wish it was something that had been in place in past years. It would’ve made a difference to what I’d done in the past, and probably would’ve done more games."

Jeanneret will be honored Nov. 12 at the Hockey Hall of Fame with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award.

"There were several factors that entered the equation, Jeanneret said. "I guess one is that I feel pretty good. That was number one. Number two – I looked at the schedule, and it was the best one I’ve seen in years as far as I’m concerned. You’re still traveling as many miles, and you’re still going to as many games, obviously. But by cutting back on the back-to-backers, that’s going to make a huge difference. It certainly played an enormous part in my decision."

"But last year, I think I took too many games off, and I recognized that. I really didn’t intend to say that I was going to do them all, but as I looked at the schedule, it started to look a little bit better each time I looked at it."
