Union rallies for 4-4 tie against Princeton
Late third-period goals by Shayne Gostisbehere and Daniel Carr helped eighth-ranked Union escape with a 4-4 ECAC Hockey tie against Princeton on Saturday at Messa Rink.
The Dutchmen trailed, 4-2, after two, and the Tigers were doing a good job keeping the Dutchmen from getting a chance to score.
But Gostisbehere got Union within one with 7:03 left when his right-point shot beat a screened Mike Condon between the pads.
Just as goalie Troy Groenick was going off for an extra attacker, Gostisbehere sent a pass from the Union zone to Carr at the Princeton blue line. He split the defense and slipped a backhander past Condon with 1:14 left.
Carr almost won it with 23.8 seconds left in the third, but his shot from five feet out in the slot hit the crossbar. Video review upheld the call.
