Union-Princeton pregame report

Good afternoon from Messa Rink, where eighth-rank Union seeks to get itself back on track as it hosts Princeton in an ECAC Hockey contest.

It was not a good Friday for the Dutchmen (3-2 ECACH, 8-3-1 overall). They were thoroughly outclassed and dominated by Quinnipiac, 4-0. Not even the return of defenseman Mat Bodie after missing five games with a broken left wrist could inspire the Dutchmen, who have played four straight lethargic games.

Friday’s lineup saw Union coach Rick Bennett dress 11 forwards, one less than usual, and seven defensemen, one more than normal. That tactic didn’t wake up the Dutchmen, either.

So, Bennett has made more changes for today’s game. Here is what Friday’s lineup looked like against Quinnipiac:
Forwards (LW-C-RW):
Daniel Ciampini/Kyle Bodie/Wayne Simpson
Kevin Sullivan/Mark Bennett/Matt Hatch
Daniel Carr/Josh Jooris/Max Novak
David Roy and Sam Coatta were the extra forwards.

Defensive pairings:
Shawn Stuart/Charlie Vasaturo
Greg Coburn/Ryan Forgaard
Shayne Gostisbehere/Mat Bodie
Sebastien Gingras was the extra defenseman.

Troy Grosenick started in goal.

Here is what the lineup looks like today:

Daniel Ciampini/Kyle Bodie/Wayne Simpson
Matt Wilkins/Josh Jooris/Daniel Carr
Kevin Sullivan/Max Novak/Nick Cruice
Theo DiPauli/Mark Bennett/Sam Coatta

Shawn Stuart/Charlie Vasaturo
Greg Coburn/Shayne Gostisbehere
Mat Bodie/Tim Boyle

Niskayuna native Colin Stevevs starts in goal.

The Tigers (2-12, 3-4-2) are coming off Friday’s 2-2 tie against RPI. They had a pair of one-goal leads in the game. Mike Condon played well in goal, stopping 37 shots. Michael Sdao had a goal and an assist, and Andrew Calof added a goal.

The Tigers are short-handed. They are dressing 17 skates, one under the limit, and two goalies. Here is the Princeton lineup, starting with the forwards:
Rob Kleebaum/Andrew Calof/Tyler Maugeri
Aaron Kesselman/Will MacDonald/Michael Zajac
Eric Carlson/Jack Berger/James Kerr
Kyle Rankin is the extra forward.

The defensive pairings are:
Michael Sdao/Eric Meland
Kevin Ross/Alec Rush
Tom Kroshus/Aaron Ave
Jeremy Goodwin is the extra defenseman.

Condon starts in goal.

Alex Dell and Kevin Graber are the referees. Andy Petrus and Mike Emanatian are the linesmen.
