Vecchione commits to Union

The Union men's hockey team has received a verbal commitment from right winger Mike Vecchione of the U.S. Hockey League's Tri-City Storm for the 2013-14 season, it was announced Sunday night.

Vecchione, who is from Saugus, Mass., had 10 goals and 19 assists in 49 games for the Storm last season. Vecchione is 19 years old, and is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds.

Vecchione played at Malden Catholic. According to U.S. Hockey Report, he had committed to the University of New Hampshire for the this season. USHR said that when UNH told Vecchione that he needed another year in juniors, Vecchione decommitted and announced that the team overcommitted for the 2012-13 season.

Vecchione had 26 goals and 44 assists in his final season at Malden. He was the team captain, and led them to the school's first Super 8 title
