College hockey notes
Some college hockey notes for you on this hot Thursday:
-- The contract of Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna has been extended by the conference's athletic directors, it was announced Thursday.
The deal will run through the 2014-15 season. Bertagna, who was with ECAC Hockey for 15 years before joining Hockey East in 1997, will start his 16th season running Hockey East.
It has been a big year for Hockey East under Bertagna. The league added Notre Dame for next season, and Connecticut for the 2014-15 campaign.
"I appreciate the vote of confidence the directors have bestowed upon me with this extension," Bertagna said in a statement. "I believe it reflects an appreciation for what the entire staff accomplished this past season."
-- Schenectady native and former Union assistant coach Kevin Patrick is expected to be named an assistant coach at Vermont by head coach Kevin Sneddon.
It would be a reunion for the two. Patrick was an assistant under Sneddon at Union from 1998-2002. Patrick moved on to Bowling Green, and then Wisconsin. He was the head coach of U.S. Hockey League's Muskegon Lumberjacks for 1 1/2 seasons before being fired midway through last season.
