NBC Sports Group announces college hockey TV schedule

What has been speculated about for several months is now official.

The NBC Sports Group announced a 16-game college hockey broadcast schedule, with the games being featured on Versus/NBC Sports Network. Eleven of the games will be part of a Friday-night package.

Speculation about college hockey games being carried by Versus/NBC Sports Network began shortly after the announcement of the National College Hockey Conference that will begin play in 2013-14.

The inaugural broadcast will be Dec. 31, when Boston University visits future Hockey East rival Notre Dame at 7 p.m. That will be one of the last sporting events on Versus, which will become NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) on Jan. 2.

There will be four ECAC Hockey contests televised, two of which involve RPI and will be at Houston Field House. The first game is. Jan. 6 against Dartmouth. The other is Feb. 3 versus Cornell. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.

The other ECACH games on NBCSN are Yale at Harvard and Dartmouth at Yale Feb. 17.

Hockey East fans will be happy to know that NBCSN will televise the conference's postseason tournament. Game 1 of the quarterfinal round will be televised March 9. The semifinal games will be March 16, and the championship game on March 17.

"We are excited to be launching our first-ever college hockey package by building a destination on Friday nights on the NBC Sports Network with many of the preeminent brands in the sport," Jon Miller, President of Programming for NBC Sports Group, said in a statement.
