NBC Sports Groups will broadcast eight races from Saratoga this summer
The NBC Sports Group has made official Thursday what was first reported last week.
NBC and Versus will combine to televise eight hours of live coverage from Saratoga Race Course over seven weekends. The series, called "Summer at Saratoga," starts July 23 with the Coaching Club American Oaks at 5 p.m. on NBC.
The big news is that the prestigious Travers Stakes will be televised by NBC Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. NBC will televise one other race, the Alabama Stakes on Aug. 20 at 5 p.m.
Versus will televise five races, starting July 30 with the Diana Stakes. On Aug. 6, it will have the Whitney Stakes. The other races on Versus are the Vanderbilt Stakes Aug. 7, the Sword Dancer Aug. 13 and the Woodward Stakes Sept. 3. Broadcasts coverage for those races starts at 5 p.m.
“This is a unique opportunity to expand our coverage of thoroughbred racing with these great races from Saratoga, a truly iconic venue,” Jon Miller, president of programming for NBC Sports and Versus, said in a statement. “This partnership with NYRA cements the NBC Sports Group’s commitment to the sport, which already includes long-term deals for the Triple Crown with Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby, in addition to the Preakness and Belmont.”
