NCAA men's basketball Final Four bumps Yankees on WTMM

The NCAA men's basketball tournament will take priority over the Yankees on Saturday and Monday on WTMM-FM (104.5).

Program director Brian Noe e-mailed me late Wednesday night, saying that the station will carry the Final Four semifinal games Saturday and the title contest Monday, preempting two Yankees' broadcasts.

The first semifinal game Saturday, between Butler and Virginia Commonwealth, starts at 6:09 p.m., bumping the Yankees-Detroit Tigers 4 p.m. matchup. That means no mention of Tigers outfielder and Schenectady's Casper Wells on the radio. On Monday, the championship game will come on after 9 p.m., which means the Yankees-Minnesota Twins 7 p.m. contest won't air.

Noe said the station will provide live updates of the Yankees' preempted games.

Here's a better idea: Move the Yankees to WTMM's sister stations, WQBJ-FM (103.5) and WQBK-FM (103.9). Otherwise, there will be plenty of angry Yankees fans.
