NBC scores with good Stanley Cup final Game 1 rating

Last night's 6-5 victory for the Chicago Blackhakws over my Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final earned NBC a 2.8 rating and 6 share, the network announced today.

It is the best rating for an opening game of the Cup final since 1999, when the Buffalo-Dallas series got a 3.7 on Fox.

The 2.8 overnight rating also ranks as the highest overnight rating for a Game 1 played on a Saturday in 13 years (Detroit-Philadelphia, 5.1 on Fox).

The rating is also a 12-percent increase over last year's Game 1 (Pittsburgh vs. Detroit, 2.5 on NBC). That game wasn't played over the Memorial Day weekend.

Game 2 is tomorrow night. Let's Go Flyers! Think Stanley Cup! And tighten up the defense!
