ECAC Hockey predictions: Week 7
Friday, November 20, 2009

I didn’t have a great record in my ECAC Hockey picks last week, but I am satisfied anyway.

My record was 7-6-2. It would have been 9-4-2 had I picked Union to sweep the North Country trip. But after watching them play to a pair of 3-3 ties against Brown and Yale the week before, and blowing a game against RPI before that, I vowed that I wouldn’t pick the Dutchmen to win until I saw them hold on to a third-period lead. They did just that.

So, I will take credit for inspiring them to win. Or maybe not.

RedLiner36 and Union Bob had the best record last week, going 9-4-2 each. Speaking of Union Bob, we figured out why he didn’t get his picks from the opening weekend of league play — he misspelled my last name in my e-mail address. He sent them to schoot@dailygazette.com instead of schott@dailygazette.com.

He resent the picks, and was 6-4-2. He will be credited with that.

Here are the standings though Week 6, with Week 5 records in parentheses:
RedLiner36 — 40-21-9 (9-4-2) 89 points.
Still Crazy In Section 17 — 39-22-9 (7-6-2) 87 points.
Matt Ruffini — 39-22-9 (7-6-2) 87 points.
Me — 38-23-9 (7-6-2) 85 points.
Union Bob — 36-25-9 (9-4-2) 81 points.

Union and RPI are off this weekend. The Dutchmen have final exams for the first trimester, and the Engineers need to re-examine their play after two straight uninspiring losses that will assuredly have the RPI fans littering the message boards calling for Seth Appert’s head.

Here are my picks. Not only are there the weekend games to pick, there are five weeknight games next week. You can post your predictions below, or e-mail them to me at schott@dailygazette.com. Everyone is welcomed to participate!
