I am smiling ear to ear because I am a very proud Dad.
My son, Steven, hit his first home run of his Little League career on Saturday for his Carman Farm Division Rollerama team. The homer, a two-run shot, snapped a scoreless tie and lifted Rollerama to a 4-1 victory over Rotterdam PBA, the team’s fifth straight win.
In the Farm Division, there are no walks. If the pitcher throws four balls, then the coach comes in and pitches to the batter. That was the case for Steven. Rollerama manger Dan Kordziel came in and threw a perfect pitch. Steven, who is a left-handed batter, took a nice, easy swing, and the ball sailed over the right-center field fence.
I help coach the team, and I was the third base coach. As soon as that ball went over the fence, I pumped my first and did a little dance. As Steven came to third, I slapped hands with him. I then retrieved the ball and gave it to Dan, who presented it to Steven after the game.
Steven also got the save. It was a great day!
